Key takeaways-
|
For sellers managing multiple channels, protecting BFCM profits requires a two-part strategy: understanding the true cost of every sale before setting discounts and tracking what you actually earn after marketplace fees, refunds, and payouts.
Black Friday 2026 falls on November 27, and Cyber Monday on November 30. But for ecommerce sellers, BFCM costs start piling up weeks before the shopping rush begins.
Amazon's higher FBA storage rates apply from October through December, while its holiday peak fulfillment fees run from October 15, 2026, through January 14, 2027. Walmart also charges higher Q4 storage fees for WFS inventory held longer than 30 days.
Shopify doesn't increase its standard processing rates for BFCM, but transaction fees, shipping, and other operating costs can add up as order volumes rise.
In this guide, we break down Shopify, Amazon, and Walmart's 2026 BFCM fees, compare how they affect your profit margins, and share practical ways to reduce unnecessary costs.

Three cost layers stack up in Q4: seasonal surcharges (Amazon's peak fulfillment fee and Q4 storage on both marketplaces), event costs (deal fees and ad costs that climb as every brand bids at once), and volume-scaled costs (card processing and revenue-based apps).
The worst part: January brings returns and chargebacks.

Unlike Amazon or Walmart, Shopify does not charge a separate Black Friday Cyber Monday card-processing fees or commission. Your normal plan and payment-method rates still apply, but more orders can mean more processing, shipping, advertising, and app expenses.
Shopify Payments charges different rates depending on your subscription plan.

Example: An $80 Black Friday order on Basic costs $2.62 to process, leaving $77.38 before fulfillment, COGS, and ads. Two Shopify costs catch sellers off guard:

According to Amazon's fee schedule, Home & Kitchen and Toys & Games generally carry 15% referral fees; Consumer Electronics carries 8%. Clothing & Accessories vary by selling price.
From the previous example, we can state that an $80 Home & Kitchen item at 15% incurs a $12 referral fee before fulfillment and advertising.
Amazon's 2026 peak FBA period is October 15–January 14. Amazon says its peak rate cards average $0.32 more per unit than non-peak rates, with the actual increase depending on the product. A separate 3.5% fuel and logistics surcharge applies to the fulfillment fee, including the peak rate.
Check your ASIN's estimated charge in Amazon's Revenue Calculator rather than applying the average to every product.
For eligible Black Friday Week and Cyber Monday Best Deals, Lightning Deals, and Prime Exclusive Price Discounts, Amazon lists $100 upfront per promotion plus 1.5% of promotional sales, with the variable fee capped at $5,000.
Inventory storage, advertising, and potential aged-stock charges can add more.

BFCM implication: A 20% markdown does not simply reduce profit by 20%. The discount shrinks revenue while per-unit fulfillment and promotional charges may stay fixed.

Walmart charges no standard setup or monthly marketplace subscription fee. Instead, referral fees vary by item category, while sellers using WFS pay additional fulfillment and storage charges.

From the example above, on the $80 home product, a 15% referral fee equals $12 before WFS, ads, and product costs. However, you must always confirm your item's assigned contract category using Walmart's current schedule.
In October–December, Walmart's WFS storage schedule lists $0.75 per cubic foot per month for units stored up to 30 days, plus $1.50 per cubic foot per month for units stored longer than 30 days.
That makes the listed rate $2.25 per cubic foot per month for qualifying older stock. Fulfillment fees depend on weight and dimensions; additional fees and incentives may apply.
BFCM implication: Slow-moving stock can cost more to hold during peak season, even if its referral fee never changes.
Suppose the same Home & Kitchen product normally sells for $100, then gets a 20% BFCM discount. To isolate the impact of selling fees, assume the same other costs on each channel:

Use this formula for your own SKUs: Contribution profit = discounted selling price − COGS − referral/processing fees − fulfillment − advertising − other variable expenses. |
Returns still cost you. Refund this order in January, and Shopify keeps its $2.62 processing fee while Amazon keeps a $2.40 refund administration fee (20% of $12), before returns and shipping.
Want this math for every order, not one example? Webgility's Profit Leak Detector estimates what fees, margin blind spots, and reconciliation gaps cost you in under three minutes.
Your payout isn't your profit. Amazon settlements and Walmart payouts arrive net of referral, fulfillment, storage, and deal fees, so a healthy deposit can hide a shrinking margin. To see true BFCM profit, record each order with its own fees, refunds, and COGS, then reconcile every payout to the orders inside it.
Webgility automates that work by connecting Shopify, Amazon, Walmart, and other channels to QuickBooks:
Because getting more BFCM orders is one thing. Knowing how much you've actually earned, and having books that prove it, is another.

Yes: peak fulfillment fees from October 15 to January 14, plus Q4 storage at about triple the off-peak rate.
Shopify’s rates don't change, but processing, app and shipping costs rise with volume.
Yes, for qualifying WFS inventory stored longer than 30 days during October–December. The listed monthly charge is $0.75 plus $1.50 per cubic foot. Products stored up to 30 days remain at $0.75 per cubic foot per month.
A payout represents cash transferred after applicable deductions and timing adjustments. Profit depends on COGS, fulfillment, advertising, returns, and other expenses. Reconcile deposits separately from calculating SKU-level contribution margin.
