Black Friday can be your biggest weekend on TikTok Shop and still your least profitable one.
TikTok reported more than $500 million in US sales across the four days of BFCM 2025. It also counted nearly 50% more shoppers than during its 2024 campaign.
But BFCM is also when every TikTok Shop cost lands on the same order: referral fees, Smart Promotion fees, creator commissions, fulfillment, and GMV Max ad spend. Across thousands of orders, a small miscalculation can erase your holiday profit.
This guide breaks down the 2026 fee stack, who pays for each discount, and what a $50 Black Friday order really earns. It also covers how to reconcile BFCM sales in QuickBooks. For deeper detail on each fee, see our TikTok Shop fees guide.
When does TikTok Shop Black Friday 2026 start?
TikTok Shop’s U.S. BFCM campaign runs November 11–30, 2026, Pacific Time. Black Friday falls on November 27, followed by Cyber Monday on November 30.
Check shop and product eligibility in Seller Center under Marketing > Campaigns. Build your pricing and inventory plan for the full campaign period, including early promotions.
How much does TikTok Shop charge sellers on Black Friday Cyber Monday?
TikTok Shop does not automatically increase its standard referral commission during Halloween, Black Friday, Cyber Monday, Christmas, or New Year. However, sellers participating in holiday campaigns may incur additional promotional fees, including higher Smart Promotion rates and applicable campaign service charges.
If you join BFCM 2026, a typical US order carries a 6% referral fee (8% if the reported increase applies) and a 4.5% Smart Promotion fee. Creator commissions, Fulfilled by TikTok (FBT) fees, and GMV Max ad spend come on top.

1. Referral fee: 6% or 8%?
The referral fee is TikTok Shop's core commission and already includes US payment processing. It equals the referral rate × (customer payment + platform discount − tax).
Seller resources such as Delzonic report that TikTok raised the standard US rate to 8% for most non-food categories on August 4, 2026. TikTok's public rate table still lists 6%, so confirm your effective rate in Seller Center's Spending Insights dashboard or recent settlement statements, and model both rates.
Note: New sellers can get a 3% rate for 30 days if they make a first sale within 60 days of onboarding.
2. Smart Promotion fee
Smart Promotion is TikTok Shop's biggest fee change of 2026, and enrollment has been required for major campaigns, including BFCM, since April. It replaced the co-funded promotion model for most sellers on March 3. You pay a fixed share of total store GMV: 3.5% normally and 4.5% during campaigns such as Black Friday, per TikTok's June 2026 program guide.
In exchange, TikTok funds coupons, product incentives, and 1% shopper cashback. It guarantees platform discounts worth at least your fee rate on eligible orders, or ad credits for the shortfall. The fee applies to every order, no matter whether they are discounted or not.
3. Creator commissions
Creator commissions are separate from TikTok Shop's referral fee and are calculated on the product price excluding tax, after seller-funded discounts. For example, a 15% commission costs $7.50 on a $50 product, or $5.25 after a 30% Black Friday discount. TikTok also protects existing creators' commission rates for 30 days, meaning lowering your rate may not immediately reduce your costs.
Pro tip: Set BFCM commission rates your margins can sustain.
4. FBT fulfillment and shipping
You can fulfill through FBT (Fulfilled by TikTok), TikTok Shipping, or your own carrier. TikTok changed the FBT rate card seven times between January and July 2026, and three changes matter most for BFCM:
- January 12: Multi-unit fees for 0–4 lb items fell up to 24%, making light bundles cheaper.
- June 1: The flat $3 return handling fee became per-unit return fees, so your return settings now drive return cost.
- June 18: Multi-unit fees for 5–20 lb items rose 0.10–3.00, so recheck heavier bundles.
FBT storage is free for the first 60 days, so time inbound shipments to sell through before then. For BFCM, TikTok extends local sellers' shipping deadlines by one business day for orders placed November 11–24, two for November 25–December 1, and one for December 2–5.
5. GMV Max ad requirements
GMV Max is the only campaign type for TikTok Shop ads, and it's built into BFCM. When you register products for a major promotion, TikTok auto-creates GMV Max campaigns for any that aren't already advertised. To keep basic benefits, such as TikTok-subsidized discounts, those campaigns must stay active and record real ad spend.
Extra BFCM perks, such as traffic boosts and special coupons, require at least $10,000 in shop-wide ad spend over the last seven days. Local US sellers also need an ROI target below 2.5 on new campaigns and can't raise existing targets above baseline.
A 2.5 ROI target means $1 of ad spend per $2.50 of credited sales, or 40% of revenue. GMV Max also credits organic orders on promoted products, so treat its ROI as an upper bound, not profit.
Instead of paying only on discounted orders, you pay a fixed share of your total store GMV:
- 3.5% outside campaign periods
- 1–2 percentage points more during campaigns such as BFCM (TikTok's own summary cites 4.5%)
In exchange, TikTok funds coupons, product incentives, and cashback for your shoppers. The fee applies to every order in your store, including orders that never used a platform discount.
Who pays for TikTok Shop Black Friday discounts?
Seller-funded discounts reduce your selling revenue. Platform-funded discounts are funded by TikTok under the offer’s terms. Track them separately from promotional program fees.
For example, a $50 product with a $15 seller discount has a $35 selling price. If TikTok funds an additional $5 coupon, the buyer pays $30 and the platform contribution can bring the seller’s proceeds to $35 before fees, assuming full reimbursement under the offer.
Do not subtract that platform-funded $5 again as your own discount. Smart Promotion charges shown on the settlement are separate from the coupon value displayed to the shopper.
The funding source changes your referral fee. To cut short, here’s the table for better understanding:

How do you calculate TikTok Shop profit margins?
For pricing decisions, calculate contribution profit: what remains from an order after product costs and variable selling expenses.
|
Contribution profit = net order revenue − COGS − platform and promotional fees − creator commissions − fulfillment − allocated advertising − other variable costs. Contribution margin (%) = contribution profit ÷ net order revenue × 100. |
Net order revenue reflects seller discounts and refunds, plus applicable platform contributions and shipping income, excluding sales tax. Avoid counting a discount twice. Net business profit also accounts for overhead and other business expenses.
Example: What does a 30% Black Friday discount really cost?
Assume a $50 product costs $30. A 30% seller discount leaves $35 in revenue and just $5 before selling expenses.
|
Order calculation |
Amount |
|
Revenue after seller discount |
$35.00 |
|
Product cost (COGS) |
−$30.00 |
|
Referral fee: 6% |
−$2.10 |
|
Creator commission: 15% |
−$5.25 |
|
Smart Promotion: assumed 4.5% campaign rate |
−$1.58 |
|
Fulfillment and shipping |
−$4.00 |
|
Allocated advertising |
−$3.00 |
|
Contribution profit |
−$10.93 |
|
Contribution margin |
−31.2% |
Under these assumptions, every $35 Black Friday sale results in a $10.93 loss before overhead. Sell 100 units, and that's approximately $1,093 lost. Sell 1,000, and the loss grows to $10,925. More orders don't always mean more profit, especially when discounts, commissions, and fulfillment costs eat into your margins.

How to protect your TikTok Shop profits during BFCM
Even a successful Black Friday campaign can leave sellers with disappointing profits if expenses aren't monitored carefully. To have full visibility into your margins, use these seven ways checklist:
1. Record sales at gross, including platform-funded discounts TikTok pays you.
2. Post each fee to its own expense account: referral, Smart Promotion, creator commissions, FBT, GMV Max, and refund administration.
3. Separate seller-funded discounts from TikTok-funded ones.
4. Match each settlement to its underlying orders, refunds, and deductions, then to the bank deposit.
5. Book refunds with the returned referral fee and the refund administration fee.
6. Keep reconciling until February 10, 2027, when TikTok's extended BFCM return window closes.
7. Review profit by SKU, not just total revenue.
Doing this by hand for thousands of BFCM orders is where errors creep in. Webgility's TikTok Shop integration connects TikTok Shop directly to QuickBooks, with no Shopify or BigCommerce store in between. It syncs orders and refunds and maps TikTok commissions, creator affiliate fees, and fulfillment costs to the right accounts. It also matches each settlement to its orders and keeps inventory aligned across channels.
